GNCBL Week 4 Update

7/1-

With todays' games we've reached the end of week 4 and that marks the halfway point of the regular season. The league wishes all of the players and families a safe and Happy Independence Day weekend. Play will resume on Tues. July 6th. Looking forward to everyone having a great second half and run to the Playoffs! Please read below for a recap of this weeks action-

There was plenty of ball this past Sunday, 6/27, with everyone in action. The Anglers welcomed the Lumberjacks to Field Of Dreams in Harrison and Game #1 saw the Anglers take a 5-1 win behind some strong pitching by Clay Robbins. Jason Komulainen remained hot at bat for the Anglers posting a 3 hit game. Game#2 saw the Anglers pick up right where they left off during the first game. Tyler Apodaca pitched a complete game and Komulainen and Rodney Bean led the offensive attack as the LumberJacks went down 6-2. At Westbrook, the Norsemen and Nor'easters squared of for (2) games. Pat Sawyer gave up 1 run over 7 innings and recorded 6 K's as the Nor'Easters took Gm #1, 5-1. Riley Bartell was 2-3 with a HR in the winning cause. Gm.#2 was a 8-4 affair, with the Nor'easters coming out on top. Ben Isaak took the win and Chris Balzano and Brogan S-Belanger each were 2-2 at the plate. Capping off the day was a pair between the Patriots and the Windjammers. The Patriots got the best of things in Gm#1, 7-4 behind a strong performance on the mound by Owen Sullivan. A balanced hitting attack secures the victory. Game #2, was an extra inning affair, taking 8 innings to be decided. Hunter O'Connor and Ryan Norris combined to keep the Patriots at just one run. Norris took the (W) for the WJammers. Riley Hasson had the hot bat turning a double into the tying run, and then came across the plate in extras with the eventual winning run.

Tuesday 6/29, was the first all month not to have rain in the forecast and the two scheduled games went off at St. Louis Field and the Ballpark @OOB. The LJacks and Patriots went at it in Biddeford where the Patriots brought their "A" game scoring 13 runs on the way to a 13-4 defeat of the Lumberjacks.

The Ballpark in OOB welcomed back the GNCBL for the first of several July appearances there. In this one the Anglers and Nor'Easters took the field. Nick Thompson had the mound for the Nor'Easters and was given ample run support as his team put up 9 runs to the Angler's 3. Drew Healey had a day, he was 4-4 at the plate including a 3 run HR. For the Anglers, Jason Komulainen ended up just short of hitting for the "Cycle" finishing up with a HR, Triple, and Double. The League closed out the week on Thur. 7/1 and rain again hampered the schedule. Two of the three games planned were able to make a go of it. At St. Joe's the Norsemen and Patriots met up under threatening skies, but the rain stayed away which was a good thing because it took extra innings to decide this tight 6-5 contest. For the Norsemen, Jack Olcott, Cam Guarino, and Brian Riley teamed up on the mound to cover the 8 innings, with Riley getting the win. Nate Rogers had 2 hits on the night and Jensen LaPointe added a HR in the winning effort.

Over in Westbrook the Nor'Easters and Anglers met up in the rubber game of their season matchup. The teams battled early on but a balanced attack at the plate lifted the Nor'Easters past the Anglers in 6 inn. 10-0. Pat Sawyer went 5 2/3, striking out 9 for the win.
