GNCBL Weekly Honors: Syvertson and Fitzgerald Take Home Player & Pitcher of the Week
The Greater Northeast Collegiate Baseball League (GNCBL) is proud to announce this week’s top performers — a pair of standout athletes who delivered big-time performances and helped lead their teams on the diamond.
🏆 Player of the Week: Zach Syvertson
Team: South Portland Puffins 🐧
College: University of Charleston
Zach Syvertson was simply unstoppable this week at the plate. In five games, the Puffins standout went 8-for-13, slashing a scorching .615 batting average, .643 OBP, and 1.258 OPS. He added 2 stolen bases, 3 runs, 1 RBI, and even drew a walk — all without striking out once.
His elite bat-to-ball skills and keen eye helped anchor South Portland’s lineup, setting the tone for the Puffins' offense every time he stepped in the box. Contact hitters like Syvertson don’t come around often — and when they get hot, they’re nearly impossible to stop.
🔥 Pitcher of the Week: Noah Fitzgerald
Team: Old Orchard Beach Bugs 🐞
College: Salve Regina
On the mound, Noah Fitzgerald was lights-out for the Bugs. The right-hander tossed 6 shutout innings, giving up just 2 hits, walking only 1, and racking up 6 strikeouts en route to the win.
Fitzgerald’s command and poise were on full display, carving up the opposition and keeping hitters guessing all game. His 0.00 ERA speaks for itself — it was pure domination from the first pitch to the last.
As the GNCBL summer heats up, so does the competition — and this week, Syvertson and Fitzgerald proved they’re among the league’s very best. Stay tuned for more weekly honors as the stars of tomorrow shine today!
