Babes Claim the GNCBL Championship in Their First Year of Play
The Bangor Babes finished their season this past Friday with a 4-2 victory over the Old Orchard Beach Bugs. This victory sealed their fate, winning them the 2024 GNCBL Championship in three games over the Bugs.
Before the Championship win, the Babes were coming off a historical summer of regular-season play. The team went 14-4 in the regular season to capture the GNCBL Regular Season Championship.
The team held higher hopes for their season and was not satisfied with the regular season title. The Babes started their postseason campaign against the 4th-seeded, Augusta Surgin’ Sturgeon. With lockdown pitching and hot bats, the Babes handled the Semifinals matchup with no problems, winning 13-4.
This victory set the stage for the GNCBL Finals, against the second-seeded, Old Orchard Beach Bugs. The pair traded blows in the regular season, making the three-game GNCBL Finals a spectacle. Bangor took game one by the skin of their teeth, 10-9. The Bugs fought back in game two winning 7-3 over the Babes. It all came down to game three for the GNCBL crown, with Bangor taking the final contest 4-2 over the Bugs.
“From the start of the season, we knew the Bangor Babes had it in them to make a special run. The team went through so much adversity, that never slowed them down. We could not be more proud of everyone who contributed to this effort.” Stated Jeff Musgrove, Majority Partner of the Bangor Babes.
This was all done in the inaugural season for the team. The bar is set for the Bangor Babes in 2025, and team management looks to deliver another amazing season in year two. Liam O’Neil of the Bangor Babes won the GNCBL Postseason MVP Award. O’Neail is a shortstop for the team out of the University of Bridgeport.
